CIEBA Members

Welcome CIEBA members! CIEBA has contracted with CEM to collect and compile its annual Membership Profile Survey. As part of process, the CEM DB and DC surveys have been merged into the CIEBA survey. Benefits for CIEBA members include:

  • Save Time and Resources - The approximately 50% of members that used to participate in both the CIEBA survey and the CEM surveys will enjoy significant time and resources savings because there is now a single cohesive survey. There is no longer a need for them to fill in both surveys or attempt to reconcile data and results from one survey to another.
  • Better Quality Data - The new CIEBA Survey has a more detailed breakdown of cost data. More detail means that costs are not overlooked and the input data can be checked more thoroughly. Also, CEM will apply its same thorough data checking processes to the CIEBA survey that it applies to its CEM surveys.
  • Online Survey – CIEBA’s annual Membership Profile survey is now available online. Responding online is better than using the Excel survey because data is partially pre-populated for returning users, online help and data checks provide instant guidance and you get to see immediate results.
  • Enhanced CIEBA Reporting - CIEBA members will continue to receive their CIEBA Membership Profile report, including its comparisons to the CIEBA universe. Beginning this year, these reports will be individualized; your data and results will be shown on the same page as corresponding CIEBA averages, whenever it is appropriate. This should make the reports more meaningful and easier to use.
  • Additional CEM Reporting - CIEBA members will also receive CEM’s free survey reports (DB and DC) which CEM provides to all participants in our databases. These reports include a comparison of each plan’s Benchmark Cost relative to its actual total cost to determine whether it is a high, low, or normal cost plan.

The benefits for CEM are:

  • Easier for potential clients to upgrade – For a fee, CEM will continue to offer its more detailed peer comparative benchmarking services to CIEBA members who want to more fully understand their cost and return performance. Now, however, it will be easier for potential clients to upgrade because they will have already provided the necessary data to CEM.
  • Better peer groups for our existing clients - CEM’s benchmarking services are based on comparing each plan’s results to a group of similarly sized peers, because size is such a big driver of costs. The more participants in our database, the better the potential peer group and the better our reports.
  • Richer database for research – CEM regularly publishes articles that benefit the industry. A broader database increases the robustness of research results.
